Suffolks With Substance

~Yearling ewes....develop into brood ewes.  We believe that the ewes are the heart and soul of the flock.  They are the 'work horses' that carry on the desired traits and bloodlines of the flock.  We strive to breed ewes that will lamb early & bring in big, well grown lambs at weaning while maintaining structural soundness, & performance.  Great rams come from great mothers and great female lines and great replacement ewes come from them as well.    This page is a sampling of Prairie Rose ewes, bred to please, produce and breed on.~

~Yearling Ewe, Prairie Rose 705~
photo taken at 16 mos. of age.

This large framed daughter of "Great Divide" combines beauty, style and volume into one eye appealing package.
The "Great Divide" daughters are as productive as they are beautiful, exhibiting excellent maternal traits. She is in our keeper pen. Mother is a "Maverick", Pleasant Valley 801 daughter. Photo taken June 30th, 2008, 2 days after being slick sheared.

Yearling ewe (pictured above) is shown here at 14 mos. of age.  She is a LAWMAN daughter (Gun Fighter g-daughter) out of Prairie Rose 667, the twin sister to "Ticket to Ride", the stud we sold in 2007 at the Nugget.  Her mother has another very respectable pair of lambs on her this year.  This ewe has grown into a tremendous individual that is so correct throughout.   She has produced a great pair of ram lambs this year.

A 'Great Divide' daughter out of our big '511' ewe.  She's a good sized ewe with the attributes that make her valuable for producing top offspring as well as being able perform in the barn.  Pictured above and shown in photo at 15 mos. of age.

This gal is a triplet LAWMAN daughter out of a prolific ewe family that produces stud quality offspring.  She is super straight made, correct throughout & has passed it on to her own lambs.  She has produced an outstanding pair of ewe lambs this season after being bred to "Yukon Jack", Luxford 07-1311.  (We will have photos of Yukon Jack's 1st yearling ewes later this spring as well as more photos of his lambs as they develop).

Prairie Rose 735 (pictured above), sired by "Saddle Tramp", Luxford 1256A and dammed by an old "Maverick", Pleasant Valley 801 (sired by 'Big Easy', Luxford 95-802) has grown into a great brood ewe producing exciting lambs!

This triplet yearling ewe is sired by one of our grand old ladies of the flock, Prairie Rose 503.  "503" is the maternal grandmother to our 2008 Reserve Grand Champion Ram at the Nugget.  She has provided us with several powerful daughters who are also making their mark in within the flock.

"Best Headed" would describe this beautiful young triplet ewe that we call "Myrt".  Get a load of those ears!!!  She has produced some very elegant offpsring with classic Suffolk beauty.  She is now 3 years of age but this photo shows her at 14 mos. of age.  She is the full triplet sister to Prairie Rose 702, who stood 2nd in her class at Reno in 2008 and is now residing at Mello Farms, California.  "Great Divide" is her sire.

Prairie Rose 732 now at home in Ilinois for Ryan Keever

Prairie Rose 732 (pictured right), a "Saddle Tramp" daughter and dammed by one of our best brood ewes who has produced many class winners and champion females for us.  "732" now resides in Illinois.

This gal is shown as a yearling in the photo after breeding.  She is quite a large ewe with correctness, body capacity & great maternal instincts.  She was Supreme Champion ewe here in Montana as a yearling and placed 2nd as a lamb behind the champion ewe who was another one of our own yearling ewes.   Jack Larson, Luxford and old George Brothers breeding runs through her veins.

Pictured here at about 15 mos. of age this ewe represents the quality & balance that we strive to produce in our ewe base.  We believe that a ewe can have a successful show career and then come home to have a successful, productive life on the ranch.
