"Great Divide"

Our senior stud, "Great Divide", Luxford 1131A. At 5 years old, he is a massive stud! We can't say enough about this ram and the continued impact he is making on the flock. He throws exciting lambs that are correct & well balanced with a great pattern to them. They grow into powerful yearlings!

Great Divide" sired our $8,500 stud buck that sold at the Nugget All American in Reno and sired our 3rd place, Class 2 ram at Reno as well as our 4th and 6th place ewes at Reno. He also sired the Reserve Senior Champion Ram for Ansel at Reno in 2005 ("Heaven Sent" who is now at stud for Kip Kuntz, California). And he is the grandsire to "Mule Train", the ram we bred & sold at Reno this year for $3,500 and to "Ticket to Ride", the "Burlington Northern" son that we sold for $2000 during Reno. We have retained several daughters. Photo shows "Great Divide" in extremely short fleece. In 2008, "Great Divide" is still
getting the job done. He is a consistent breeder and we like his 08 lambs just as well as we liked his first lamb crop. This buck is a true stud's stud.

"Great Divide"

At 5 years of age, Great Divide (or "Roy" as we affectionately call him around the barn) is a proven stud ram siring champion quality offspring. His pedigree traces to some great sheep of the past, including "Duke", the dam of "Blue Boy" and some of Ansel's great females. He measures 42"x45" and tips the scales at 451 lbs. His 2008 lamb crop looks great!

"LAWMAN"

This impressive RR/NN yearling ram, pictured at 16 mos. of age is still on the grow! Sired by "Gun Fighter", Lost River 02-299, he is a grandson of Wilt Suffolks, "Gun Slinger" and g-grandson of BYU 741, "The Great 1". Purchased as an outcross for our Luxford/Prairie Rose bred ewes. He sired over half of our lamb crop in 2008 and has sired some tremendous lambs for us with size and scale! Several daughters will be retained. We have purchased a new stud ram so we are offering this powerful buck FOR SALE. For more details, go to the "Stud Ram 4 Sale" page.

"FREIGHT TRAIN"

GOT BODY? Range Buyers take a look at this stud. This ranch raised RR/NN stud drips with mass and muscle, a Prairie Rose ram that follows the big, bodied, massive pattern that we are known for. We are retaining this powerful ram as a stud.
You have to appreciate this buck's natural muscling, bone, big wide hip and good feet and legs. Those that have seen him are impressed with his overall mass, scale, muscle and bone. Sired by "Great Divide", he portrays the type and kind of stud ram (ram sire) we are striving to produce for the range and commercial producer. (photo taken July 21st, ram was slick shorn the 3rd week in June). Watch for his lambs in 2008!
UPDATE: Thanks to Jake Green of the Diamond C Ranch for purchasing 1/2 interest in this stud.

"Saddle Tramp"

Luxford 1256A, the 2006 addition to the stud pen. This RR stud brings some interesting things to the table. He is thick made, upfronted & correct and hails from Ansel's best stud ram and ewe family! His paternal grandsire is Gamble/Bracco 89, who was sired by "X-Centric", Gamble 9118. Used to compliment the qualities exhibited by our "Great Divide" daughters, he was also bred to "Maverick" & "Barn BuRRner" daughters as well. He has sired some fabulous lambs for us that are extremely long, correct, good boned and naturally thick. There are some really powerful lambs in this group.
Stud Ram Hall of Fame: includes influential studs of the past in building our flock.

"Bridger Gold" ~ Our 1st true stud! Over a decade ago, he was 40 x 40 and tipped the scales at 450 lbs. A massive Pleasant Valley stud, he was rich in vintage Luxford & Jack Larsen bloodlines. He changed our entire flock nearly overnight. His rams were big, "western cut", rugged individuals who were easy keepers, even of grass and range conditions. His daughters were long lived (10+ years), big, thick, capacious ewes that were excellent milkers & mothers and who fast became the replacements for our aging ewe base. "Bridger" himself lived until he was 8 1/2 years old, producing lambs until he passed. Bridger's blood still runs deep within our ewe base.

"Maverick", Pleasant Valley 801, another massive stud steeped in Luxford bloodlines, was also one of the most eye appealing, stylish & prepotent big rams we have ever seen. His offspring were consistent and powerful and brought us into the showring. Sons and daughters alike were attention getters and many, many of them were champions or class winners for us and others who purchased them. "Mav's" legacy lives on in the flock today, through many of his daughters and now granddaughters.

"Barn BuRRner", Pleasant Valley 1016RR, champion ram at the 2003 Western Purebred Show and Sale, he was rich in Luxford, George Brothers and Pleasant Valley breeding. We used him for 3 years, while building more "R" gene into the flock. He sired long, naturally thick, growthy lambs built for wear and tear. Both sons and daughters fleshed well on grass. We retained several daughters in the flock as brood ewes as they are consistently productive, exhibiting excellent maternal traits. "BuRRner" sired several champions in Montana for us or others. He also produced our 1st Junior Ram at the Newell Ram Sale (stud show), South Dakota, in 2004 and our 2nd Junior Ram at the Newell Ram Sale in 2005 as well as the high selling Suffolk female at the 2005 Northwest Sheep Show & Sale, in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

"Lightning Bolt", Prairie Rose 5355-2

This ranch raised stud, a son of "Strictly Business", Luxford 1234A and Prairie Rose 355, exemplifies the depth of quality that we are striving for in our breeding program. This stud has the correctness, depth of body, spring of rib, natural thickness, balance and breed character that we like to see in a stud buck. We have retained his 2007 ewe lambs.
